The devices connect to the voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant service, which will respond when you say a wake-up/activation word. Some models are also equipped with a clock or a screen. The devices are connected to the internet.

It is capable of music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, and providing weather, traffic, sports, and other real-time information, such as news. They can also control several smart devices using itself as a home automation system.
